What are University of Houston Internships and Co-ops?

 Internships

These are short-term work experiences that you typically do during summer or a semester. During an internship, you’ll work for a company in your field of study. You’ll understand what the job is like, learn new skills, and build your resume. Some programs offer a stipend, while some others offer course credits.

Co-ops

They’re similar to internships, but they often last longer. Co-ops allow you to alternate between working and studying. You can work full-time at a company for one semester and return to classes the next semester. Co-ops enhance your job experience and help you envision your future career journey.

When to Do University of Houston Internships and Co‑ops?

UH Co-Ops

UH Co-ops can be done as per your semester schedule:

• Spring Co–op: From Dec 12 to Apr 7 (Spring ends May 8)
• Summer Co–op: From May 9 to Jul 7 (Ends Aug 15)
• Fall Co–op: From Aug 18 to Nov 17 (Ends Dec 15)

Eligible candidates must be enrolled full-time before and after the Co-op semester.

UH Internships

You can do an internship after completing your first year at the UH. Students typically begin internships during their sophomore or junior year. Once you’ve finished basic courses and gained some skills in your chosen field, you’re ready to start your internship.

Who Qualifies for UH Internships and Co‑ops?

To qualify for University of Houston Internships and Co-ops, you need to have completed at least 2 semesters at UH. This rule applies to undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of their in-state or international status.

How to Sign Up?

Applying for UH Internships

• Log in to Access UH and click on Cougar Pathway
• Complete your profile by filling in your academic information and work preferences.
• Click on Jobs, then search for internships by typing “internship” in the search bar.
• You can use filters like paid/unpaid, remote, or your major.
• Next, upload your resume and cover letter (if applicable), and then click Submit.
• Talk to your academic advisor or counsellor for advise regarding internships.

Applying for a UH Co-op

•  Find a job offer in your major.
• Submit an official offer letter that includes the role, pay, dates, and company information.
• Submit the online Co-op Application and your offer in a PDF format to the UH Co-op Office.
• Register via PeopleSoft and pay a non-refundable program fee of $215.
• This will be charged for every semester of your Co-op
• Start your Co-op position.
• Next, complete and submit a work report and employer evaluation at semester’s end.
• Wait about 3-5 business days for approval.
• Track deadlines and monitor your emails and career events for the latest information.

Internships and Co-ops by Major

Depending on your major, different types of University of Houston Internships and Co‑ops include:
